KK Day 3: Monkeys and fireflies
Hotel is much busier, weekend guests I think. After breakfast went to the pool. It was very busy for a while but I did eventually get a lounger. Then everyone left. A young Malay woman came down with her husband and swam fully dressed,in her day clothes, with her tudong flowing out behind her. I felt very underdressed in a swimsuit!
Caesar salad in my room and then off in the same bus as yesterday, bit south this time to River Klias, near Beaufort and almost in Brunei. There were only 3 of us, other 2 were a young couple from Vancouver travelling round SE Asia.
It took 2 hours and very bumpy in bits as they are building a new Pan Borneo Highway, though there didn't seem to be much work going on.
Snacks, two cruises on the river, with dinner in between. The first to see proboscis monkeys and any other wildlife and the second to see fireflies. We saw both and also a baby croc and macaques and silver something monkeys. And it didn't rain so we did see fireflies. Tbh honest I saw more monkeys closer up in Sarawak in 2014 but it was good to see a different part of Sabah, in the rain, and the dinner was excellent and the guide really good.
Didn't get back till almost 9.30. Call with number 3 son. His car has died. Watched QI XL, Vintage. Susan Calman was hilarious. A good day but my body feels the bumps!
