Playing from memory
Remembering better days today.
For many, many years the FA CUP 3rd Round was a big day for both Dad and myself.
In the 1960s and 1970s we actually went to some matches on the day. After that we enjoyed the day because it was one of the few times a live game was shown on TV.
When Saturday afternoon was when almost all the matches were played we enjoyed listening to a match commentary and latest scores on BBC radio BUT we also played Scrabble at the same time!!!
Nothing lasts for ever but the FA Cup 3rd Round now spread over 6 days with randomly chosen kick off times the enjoyment is greatly reduced. There is not even the chance of a mid-week replay - some of the most memorable football matches I can remember.
Dad would still be looking forward to Arsenal v Man United tomorrow at 3pm and would probably have won the Scrabble.
As I type Plymouth have just scored to take the lead at Brentford with only minutes to play - THIS is what I mean, it is so special and the radio commentary takes me back to the wonderful days
