Festive
Time for the traditional Voeux du Maire this evening. There was a good turnout -- a good chance to wish everyone a happy new year and exchange germs. Unusually, no chairs were provided, and Serge gave a very long speech. It wasn't only the children who were getting fidgety by the end. But then the wine came out and, eventually, food. It had been described as an apéro dinatoire, but the food was rather scanty. Stuffed mussels, which had all gone before I even realised they existed (too busy catching up on gossip), and then after a long pause during which the hungriest people descended on the baskets of clementines, some delicious and diet friendly skewers of grilled chicken and beef. These were being cooked on a barbecue outside, so the best strategy was to post yourself by the door and swiftly grab one as platters were brought in. There was a small amount of bread, and some cubes of cheese. I was still a bit hungry when I got home though.
There was dancing of course. Extra: the obligatory Madison, danced with wine glass in hand. The wine did not run out.
