Crackers

Today's blip is a tray of nut shells, pistachio and walnut shells. Rather than throw them away or try to compost them, we collect them up and then use them as mulch - they take for ever to rot. The walnut shells contain 5-Hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione ("juglon") which can be used as a black dye, and is also an anti-germination factor, and can stunt the growth of some plants so needs to be used carefully.

This morning on the way home from the dog walk I slipped and landed on my hip and forearm. I've now got a very nasty graze on my arm (through a thick coat and two layers of clothes!) and a sore arse. I think my pride was mostly hurt and I may have cracked or broken a bone in my little finger as it's rather painful and a swollen - but I can't really do anything abut it.
