Scalloway Fire Festival 2025

A beautiful calm and sunny day, bitterly cold and icy, no more snow, but still snowy. Calm and clear tonight. 

Up early, a long weekend off work.  Headed out to see the start of Scalloway Fire Festival, Up Helly Aa season has begun.  Walkies with Sammy, washing out and chores done around the house.  Mam and Laura came over this evening, we headed to see the evening festival procession.  Off out to the Scalloway Legion tonight, a night of Vikings, silly squad acts and partying.

Another year of Up Helly Aa celebrations has begun, and we welcome the day getting longer again.  This year's guizer Jarl is John-Willum Laurenson, leading the squad and the celebrations.  After the morning procession, they visit the local schools and other places, before the party starts tonight.  A year to make the suits and galley.  A big crowd this morning with the fine day, even bigger tonight.  Some of the Jarl Squad boys heading along Main Street, Scalloway.
