The Itchen Valley in Winter
There was some light snow yesterday evening and overnight which lingered all day, despite the wonderful sunshine we enjoyed from dawn to dusk. We walked to our local Yew Hill butterfly reserve and over Compton Down, with great views eastwards over the Itchen alley,( see first extra) to Shawford village on the river Itchen. (See second extra.) Then we walked home by the river to the Hospital and Chapel of St Cross, with its ancient almshouses. My blip shows the gatehouse, where walkers can claim their Wayfarer's Dole ( beaker of ale and biscuit).
