Bow Fiddle Rock

It was the Rest Day today and we drove to Macduff Harbour to join orienteering friends on a boat trip out on the Moray Firth to see what sealife we could see. Unfortunately the skipper if the boat had double booked. Several of the party were able to return in the afternoon for his offered free trip but we were booked in to the Sprint Event at Lossiemouth and so had to decline.

We decided to have a cuppa in Banff and then plan our day. After a visit to Banff Harbour we drove back west and stopped off in Cullen (home of the famous Cullen Skink) and then further on to Bow Fiddle Rock. I blipped the rock from several angles and we did some clambering for a while. The wild flowers and butterflies on the cliffs were plentiful and there were hundreds of roosting gulls with a handful of cormorants and a couple of oystercatchers and eider ducks thrown in.

From there we drove to Spey Bay and had lunch in the Wild Cafe, part of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society complex. Lots of people were sitting on the pebble beach enjoying the spectacle of dolphins, drawn by the salmon attempting to swim upriver, frolicking just out to sea. We sat awhile and then headed to Lossiemouth for the Sprint Race which was extremely cerebral and great fun.
