Wildlife and wildfires

In our little corner of the world the wildlife goes about its business while Armageddon rages halfway across the world as  fires consume LA.
Some years ago we were invited to stay with some friends in LA for Thanksgiving and one day we walked along Malibu beach. I remember marvelling at the homes of the rich and famous, all built within yards of the sea, and the empty beach which stretched for miles. 
Today fire reduced it all to ashes within three to four hours.
 One friend is still living in California, and we are trying to contact her to check she is safe.
How can people still deny climate change?
