Preening Time for Male Mergansers

I have a feeling these birds will be a theme till the rain stops, they seem to be the only birds enjoying the weather. I am now up to 10 trips to the lake at Villeneuve without a single sighting of a kingfisher or a even a grebe. Where have all the birds gone?
