Pleach

This is marked as “Old Shaft” on the 1854 map so could be about 200 years old and served the nearby Easthouses Pit until coal mining ceased  in 1969.  Just visible in the sky, as the sun is setting, is an aeroplane on its way from Frankfurt to Mexico.  Without these two manmade structures the view (excluding the distant settlements) would probably have been similar here for hundreds of years as the sun was setting on a cold January day.
Thanks to steveng for hosting the “manmade” challenge today.
