up and up

Trip to the Campus Benjamin Franklin in the South of Berlin. We are getting a new data centre there and had to be instructed on the particulars. The data centre runs with reduced oxygen (15% rather than the usual 21%) which suppresses open flames. There procedures to know how to raise oxygen levels for the uninitiated, disarm alarms and how long we get to stay in. We'll also need a health check before we get to go in at 15% oxygen levels. The data centre is very swish. I was particularly interested in the room where oxygen is removed from the air to increase nitrogen levels (see extra). Our other data centre has a nitrogen fire extinguisher system. In case of fire it gets flooded with nitrogen. Same idea but fatal should you not get out in time. When we work there we tend to switch off the nitrogen system.

The blip is of the scaffolding of the Steglitzer Kreisel, a high rise that is being renovated for quite some years now. Not sure what the current status is. It seems to be a bit of a financial disaster area. It does look quite impressive.
