Still Life with Needles and Thread
If my recollection of art history is correct, Caravaggio is credited with the first pure still-life, a basket of fruit, 1599, which inspired a huge following all through Europe, but it is probably Cezanne who pioneered the genre in modern art. I do remember that my first photography class in art school we were given the assignment to set up a still life at home and then photograph it under as many different light conditions as possible. I think I did something slightly more complicated than this accidental still life I notice this morning. Just an attempt to fine something interesting in the commonplace on a frigid winter morning.
