LA BELLA VITA

Lloyds Building

This, the Gherkin, and the Glasgow College of Art are possibly my absolutely favourite buildings. I never tire of seeing them.

We met our Neapolitan friends for a visit to Sky Gardens (great London views and gardens on the top 2 floors of a 38th storey skyscraper). Sadly the outside viewing platform was closed due to the weather). While waiting for them we strolled in nearby Leadenhall Market, and admired the Lloyd's Building (blipped), next door.

Remarkable this unique and futuristic design won an architectural exhibition in 1978, and Queen Elizabeth opened the completed building in 1986. Around then a friend worked in the building and gave me a guided tour inside. It now has Grade 1 Listed status.

We all had time to spare after Sky Gardens, so had a look in St Paul's Cathedral. The Italians then headed off for a pizza, while we met J&R, and E for dinner at San Carlo Cicchetti in Piccadilly.

Tomorrow return to Sunny* Bournemouth (*unlikely - heavy rain, strong winds and cold more likely). Expect we leave early afternoon.
