Ashbourne Tunnel

I must have moved when I took this photo to have the effect on the lighting....

We walked around Ashbourne today on the Wednesday Wobble which was on Friday because it was New Year's Day on Wednesday. The starting point was just outside Ashbourne at the Tissington Trail. We then walked to Mayfield and stopped off in Clifton for lunch at The Cock Inn.

The extra photo was taken here and is one of the "goal posts" for the famous Royal Shrovetide Football game which takes place in Ashbourne each year. The goal posts are 3 miles apart! The game takes place between the Up'Ards (those born in Ashbourne north of Henmore Brook) and the Down'Ards ( those born south of the river). You do have to stand in the river to score a goal too...

We then headed back to Ashbourne via a tunnel under the town.
