A Chilly Silly Saturday

Having slept quite well after my long Friday, I managed to get down to breakfast at the Two Brewers with about half an hour to spare, thanks to it being Saturday and therefore the serving hours running later than on weekdays. I chose a table in a little bay window and looked out at the frosty view while waiting to be served. I did a double take. Yes, that really is a man and his children on the common dressed only in jeans, t.shirts and no coats! The temperature outside was about -3°C at that time in the morning. “They must be mad”, I thought, “very silly indeed”. It turns out the family were over from Australia, staying at the hotel, and the kids had never seen frost like that before - so of course they just had to go and run around in it.

The hearty full English breakfast I tucked into is shown in Extras, along with a chilly view of the Two Brewers taken from the common. Even in my very warm coat, scarf, ear muffs and gloves I didn’t hang around there for as long as the Australian family did.

I set off for home at just after 10.30am, and had a very good run back in just one and a half hours - nearly an hour shorter than yesterday afternoon‘s journey - having enjoyed a lovely little mini-break.
