Mummy hazelh installed
Today my not-so-little sister and I helped Mummy hazelh settle into a care home in Newcastle. We have both been very anxious about the move, but it seems that all the careful preparations have paid off. The staff were especially kind to all three of us. Only one of us cried, and that was me!
I stayed with Mummy hazelh in her room for four hours or so. I unpacked her cases, found places to display her photos, and sewed name-tapes onto several items of clothing that she had taken away with her on holiday two weeks ago. Mummy hazelh repeatedly asked me where she was and why she was there. I must have answered that question about 70 times over the course of the afternoon.
My not-so-little sister was with us for part of the time. She also stitched name-tapes. She was a great help in supplying information for the last couple of forms that the care home sent me earlier in the week.
We left at dinner time, handing Mummy hazelh over to the care home staff at the entrance to the dining room. She wasn't too happy when she heard that we were leaving, but was reassured when told that my not-so-little sister, who lives very close by, would be back soon. When we peered into the dining room a few minutes later, we could see her chatting happily with three other ladies at a table for four. I felt like a parent who watches their child running off to play with other children on their first day at school.
As we were leaving, I realised that I hadn't taken any photos for my Blipfoto journal, hence this fading light shot of the entrance to the care home.
The funniest moment of the day came just before I took this photo. A man who was collecting a visitor to the home saw that my not-so-little sister and I were carrying cases to her car. Thinking that the cases contained some sort of equipment, he asked us if we had been performing for the residents!
Exercise today: small amount of walking (~9k steps).
