River of Flowers

Saturday: January Surprise

After a good night’s sleep we got up to a dry and grey day, very chilly but it stayed dry all day, temperature only just above zero.

Pulled half a dozen leeks from behind the greenhouse and made a tasty Leek & Potato soup for lunch with enough for a few days and for the freezer.

Next job was making a large pan of prawn curry for our dinner this evening. I always add some chopped greens from the garden to soups and stews, as I was gathering baby cabbage and kale leaves my eye were drawn to some pink flowers in a pot behind the greenhouse. This was a gift for me from MrD’s colleague, I’d passed on my old iPhone so that her daughter might use it.

The plant is Daphne odora “Perfume Princess Pink”, I’ve put temporarily into a pretty ceramic pot - when it’s finished flowering and the weather is warmer I’ll transplant it properly into the pot so it can grow on.

MrD and I watched the last 2 episodes of series 2 of “Departure” - lots of twists to the story but it was exciting and very enjoyable :-)

ADDED LATER: have included the plant label in EXTRAS for future reference
