Last Run

My last day in the States and it was another cold and bright day, the temperature just below zero. The sports watches I'd got for the boys for Christmas finally arrived yesterday and Ian wanted to try his out by coming out for a run with K and myself. It's almost exactly a mile around the Upper Lake on campus and we did a slow lap together, with rest stops, young Ian's swimming fitness not appearing to translate seamlessly to running! K and I then left the boy to play while we did a lap together, before three turned to one and I said goodbye to my New England training on my own with another lap of the lake and a final tour of the campus. I'm going to miss this crystalline dry weather.

I was really sad to say goodbye to everyone. I'm going to miss my nephews. I think they're going to miss me too. I hope so.

Brother and I had a strange experience at Logan Airport. Getting there in good time, we wanted to share a coffee before we said goodbye. Could we find anywhere? It was mad. We had to walk between two terminals through corridors that made us feel like we were in a hospital and there was still only one place open on that side of check-in and security. And even then, through some strange miscommunication, we never got our coffees. It didn't really matter.

I discovered that flying on New Year's Eve is not only very much cheaper but also quieter and all around relatively pleasant experience.
