St Benedict’s Tower

Thought to be built in the 11th century, St Benedict’s church was bombed during one of the “Baedeker Blitz” raids in 1942, leaving only the tower standing. These air raids by the Luftwaffe were so-called because the popular Baedeker tourist guide book and maps were used in selecting and locating the targets in English cities.
