Buried under a thug

The thug is a penstemon that gets bigger and better every year and saves it’s bacon by being covered in red flowers.
Poor old hellebore barely gets a look in but still flowers in the hope of being uncovered.
A bit of pruning may take place when the sub zero temperatures abate.
