Winter sunshine (Day 3524)

We had a light dusting of snow overnight, and snow showers peppered the morning. Late in the morning my beautiful wife and headed for Stromness, and after leaving Sigyn with Mum went to check on the horses.
On the way to the horses, the local SSPCA officer got in touch with HV to tell her that some moron had reported that our Thoroughbred horses were not adequately rugged, were in a flooded field which didn't have any shelter and not enough feed. The SSPCA officer said that we wouldn't be getting a visit as they know perfectly well that our horses aren't thoroughbreds, they are very well cared for with absolutely adequate rugging, the field isn't flooded, and the horses have plenty to eat. A few years back our horses had access to a stable. It was left open for them so they could get in out of the poor weather if they wanted. They never used the stable, preferring to stand at the side of the building which gave them most shelter from the wind. Some people really should keep their opinions to themselves...
We found the horses all snug in their rugs and having not eaten all of the hay they were given yesterday.
We got the field chores done, then took the water trailer to the farm steading to fill it up. While we waited for it to fill we got saddle racks and some hooks put up in our new tack room. After leaving the water trailer back at the field, we headed back to Mum's for lunch, then out for a wander with Mum and the dogs. We were lucky with the weather, the worst of it coming when we had our backs to the wind.
After the walk we finished off horse chores before coffee at Mum's to warm up before heading back home.
