First Parkrun of 2025

WEDNESDAY - New Year's Day

There was no New Year’s Day Parkrun scheduled for Prestatyn today, and the one at Ruthin was cancelled due to the overnight winds and heavy rain. The Greenfield Valley Parkrun at Holywell was still on, so I headed there, listening on the car radio to tributes to Johnnie Walker, who sadly passed away yesterday.

Fortunately, by the start at 9:00 am, the winds had eased, and the rain had nearly stopped. There were 133 runners, which is  a bit higher than the usual 75. I didn't exert myself too much, having just heard on the radio that the Welsh Ambulance Service had declared a critical incident, with patients having to wait hours for attention, and finished in 29:22, a minute and a half slower than my best time here last year.

We had a FaceTime call with Harriet and George late in the morning, and in the afternoon, we invited the neighbours over for coffee and mince pies.

This evening, there were lots of posts about the Aurora Borealis being visible locally, so I nipped outside to see if I could catch a glimpse. Compared with the shows of 2024, there was nothing spectacular — just a faint pinkish glow to the north.

I’m a bit late posting this, but I’d like to wish all my friends on Blipfoto a Happy and Healthy 2025!
