St Albans Cathedral

A drive to St Albans to visit the cathedral, which we haven't done for years.

It is a wonderful building, with so much history and some remarkable wall paintings that date back to 1277.

The wooden watching loft (blip 4), used to supervise pilgrims as they visited the shrine of St Alban, is the only remaining example in the UK.

Outside, the Vintry Garden (Blip 1) was a monastic graveyard and then a vineyard before the Dissolution.  Who knew that we had vineyards in England back inthe 1500's!
