Not A Good End To 2024

This is our garden: all of it completely under water.

This was not the way we expected to see the year out. We thought we might go to town and get some food and drinks for tonight and tomorrow. We thought we might watch some films as we used to do all day long with The Late Mate on this day of the year.

Just at 3pm, when we were expecting the rain to ease, we looked out and our garden was flooded. Something which hasn't happened for a few years. The plugs were already in our air-vent covers but, floatable things like plastic watering cans were still in danger of floating out of the garden and down the village. There is a very strong current whips round the end of our house. This is why all my pot plants are on raised platforms. A few recent purchases needed to be rescued. The water in this blip is too deep to enter in wellies.

The reason for this flooding is a gridden culvert in our neighbour's garden. The young couple who now live there remember the flooding from the man's childhood days in the house and do their best to keep the grid clear of debris but they happened to be away.

We, and other neighbours went into their garden and took turns to rake the grid. Our neighbour phoned to apologise when he got my message and saw the Facebook entries. But all is well. The Man went out in the dark and did another rake. Our garden is empty of water. Our house has not got water into it. All we will have to deal with (or not) is a bit of mud over everything.

Night, night to 2024. See you again tomorrow with good wishes for 2025.
