Christmas table

Happy Christmas

I went to the bathroom at 8 a.m. and was surprised that my only company was the cats. Within an hour, everybody was up and in the front room where Santa had visited, and there were mountains of presents to open. Everybody seemed delighted with their gifts, the biggest being a hoverboard that A wanted. By the end of the day, it was on charge. As always, everybody was very generous, and I have books and electronic gadgets, even a jigsaw of a picture taken in Shrewsbury, to entertain myself in the coming weeks.

There was still a lot of food preparation to do, but several of us wanted to take an appetite-building walk. So, at about 3 p.m., we headed down to the seafront for an hour before returning and setting the table. While the final cooking was completed, I watched the King’s speech with Mum and Dad, and then we were called through.

J&M did a fantastic job. There was a huge table of food, including some unexpected Yorkshire puddings that I loved but went against Mum’s principles of only eating Yorkshires with beef.

In the evening, and long after they’d been on live television, the family wanted to watch Call the Midwife, and I unexpectedly enjoyed tonight’s episode. I think we’ll be watching another tomorrow. This week, there was a lot of coverage of the Gavin and Stacey: The Finale special, which we all watched together. It was nice Christmas viewing. I couldn’t eat the turkey sandwiches when they came out; I was too stuffed.
