Cicada shell
This is a cicada shell, still gripped to its leaf after its occupant had squeezed itself out. While there are plenty of cicadas about this year they are elusive, but we can hear them. So far the closest I've come to seeing one is caught in a cobweb.
I love a grey day, especially a still one. When I went into the garden to find a tiny thing, barely a leaf was moving. While my light source today is the sun, it's not doing its usual garish thing for this time of year. I much prefer a cloud cover for making the light more even and enhancing colour and detail in my tiny subjects, rather than overwhelming them. Today's stillness was also good for a focus stack.
It's New Year's Eve here already! No crowds and crackers for us. If I manage to stay awake for midnight it will be the first NYE on which I've done that in at least a decade.
A happy New Year to all blippers. May your 2025 be filled with peace and joy.
Thanks for hosting TT through December and for setting interesting themes carolinav.
