Close-up

This is a close-up of an item The Husband found at the local Goodwill store some time ago. He said it was just standing in the corner and people were looking at it, but no one wanted to shell out $20 for it. So he did. I hadn't seen it until today when he showed it to me because he has been making a floor lamp out of it. As you do.

I told him it looked Australian - Aboriginal - to me, and then did a Google image search and my theory was confirmed. A bamboo pole, maybe for a rainstick, or a didgeridoo? Any of my Aussie or Kiwi friends have any theories? The extra is a shot of most of the entire length of it.
