Respecting the past

Five years ago today at exactly 5pm I was in a severe case crash. The police said the impact was approx 90mph.

I was driving to my boyfriends and ronan keating was playing on the radio..."if tomorro never comes" i came round a bend and hit a puddle.. I was aqua planing which pushed me to the wrong side of the road.... I became head on with a Nissan Micra and even as I write this I can still see the people's faces.... I grabbed my wheel hoping to avoid them as my car caught traction it flung me up a grass verge and as I came back down I smashed through the back of a 4x4 flipping it into the air a few times before it landed bk on its wheels and I went through the fence/wall


I had my dream car which I'd bought with the money my papa had left me! It was a John cooper works mini! My papa was tiny and so was my amazing car. It was a year to the day since I got the car and it was written off.


The road was closed for hours.... Everyone kept commenting on a fatality, the radio traffic updates said the road would be shut for the rest of the day....

I didn't exactly walk away from the crash but I shouldn't be writing this now. The police officer was amazed I was alive. I can still remember lying on the ambulance bed and hearing him tell my mum to expect the worse....he later brought me flowers to the hospital!

I was in hospital for a long time and haven't felt pain like it before. I kept telling the doctors I'd smashed into the steering wheel they wouldn't listen
"Ur air bag will have stopped u"
" ur seatbelt will have stopped u" is all they said until my partner and the police officers came and announced my airbag had for stuck so had deployed and my seatbelt had came out the wall!
My pedals were loose and the front on my car unrecognisable

Every year since this horrible day I Lay flowers in the fence where my car eventually landed. A family friend who loved my car was contacted to advise him of the crash and the car for us to be told he'd passed the day before playing squash... He had a heart attack...
So I put the flowers down for him also.....
After the first year I noticed after a few days there were a couple of bunches on the fence as well as mine....
Turns out one is the police officer and other was the women in the car behind me.

Iv been told many times I had an angel watching over me that day.... I now have a huge angel on my back with what looks like a butterfly but is the mini badge....

Iv never shared the tradition of leaving the flowers with anyone apart from close family and friends but I feel this year is the milestone... I no longer have to declare it on any car insurances and I now own another mini!
