The other side of the range
My intention today was to explore a winding track up the side of the Willunga Hills/Sellick’s Hill range, south of Adelaide, on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It turns out the track is closed just past the turn off from the main road, so we went right around the range and took the track from the other side where it joins up with another main road.
We went as far as we could on the other side until we hit the closed road sign from the other side. The view was pretty spectacular along the way, which I recalled as a kid with Dad taking us along the track. (My family have always been explorers of the back track and side roads)
The road was narrow enough not to be able to pull over and have lunch, so we explored another randomly chosen back track ( Peel Road) and found perfectly placed turn off to kick back and relax. The scrub around there was the classic Fleurieu Peninsula sort; low dense hardwood gums, grass trees and bracken. See the extra.
The whole adventure made me incredibly happy. Hooray for holidays!
