The great trek home for Hogmanay has just begun. It’s not that long ago, well within living memory, when this was the major winter festival and Christmas just another working day.
 
One Glaswegian comedian named it “  the season of wee feelies” when every man and his dog felt free to come and kiss you. And they did. Total strangers.
