Nine of us (including two dogs) ambled up and down the Sychpant nature reserve in the Gwaun valley. It was sunny but misty white clouds rolled in across the hills and eventually obscured the sunshine. We repaired to the tiny pub forever known as Bessie's, for beer etc. along with the bread and salami we brought with us.
The place has not changed since the demise of the former incumbent who passed away a year ago.The tiled floor is still dusty, the chairs still tied together with baling twine, and the photo of the late Queen still hangs on the wall, not however surpassed by the memories of the pub's presiding spirit - gone but not forgotten.
