Doughboy
This collection of photographs and certificates honours my paternal grandfather, Edwin Serre Murphy.
During World War I, he served as an Army captain in the American Expeditionary Forces in France. He was an avid horseman, and you can see in one of the photographs that he is giving his mount a drink from a cup they won at Cantigny.
The small rectangular certificate at the top of this image is his Officer's Identity Card, which shows that his rank was Captain F.A., and his Duty was Commanding Headquarters Troop - 1st Division.
The large framed certificate at the bottom reads:
Headquarters First Division
"The Commander-in-Chief has noted in this Division a special pride of service and a high state of morale never broken by hardship nor battle." G.O. No. 201, G.H.O., A.E.F., 10 Nov. 1918
