Beached

Two casualties of the horrendous gales were these boats. They'd been moored off the 4th of the Churchill Barriers but were blown, one up onto the beach and one up on to the concrete blocks which form the barrier.

Today Mike and I did some last minute shopping in the village then drove along to the beach for Mike to see the boats and Lottie to have a run in the sand dunes. Fun for all!

The gales didn't cause as many problems or damage as elsewhere further south, but the ferries stopped and the planes so no post or food lorries got jnto Orkney for a day or do. The manager of the local Tesco store put a reassuring message on the local Facebook page saying there would be a huge delivery coming in time for Christmas - which it did! We managed to get all the last minute things we needed, and much more, in the local shop. It's times like these that you realise how important they are and that it's worth paying a bit more to ensure that they keep trading. We'd be scuppered without them!
