On the bus
Christmas Eve, I rode the bus to Sue's house, as she's having a family brunch on the 25th. Several organizations offered Christmas Eve celebrations for unhoused people, including this man who told everyone on the bus that he had just eaten a great meal and received this wonderful raincoat and Santa hat for Christmas.
This year a record number of unhoused people died on the streets of Portland: 436 people. If it weren't for the several non-profit organizations that provide some shelter, food, and clothing for unhoused people, it would be worse. I think about billionaires who could redistribute their wealth to help house people and still have more material wealth than they could ever use in a lifetime. And don't. Honestly, I don't get it.
