Barbara branch

Our branch has started to bloom.

Barbara branches are branches of fruit trees or other flowering shrubs which, according to an old custom, are cut on December 4th, the liturgical memorial day of St. Barbara, and placed in a vase in the home.

The custom goes back to a legend about Saint Barbara, according to which her robe got caught on a branch on the way to prison. She put the broken branch in a vessel of water and it blossomed on the very day she was martyred.

According to local folk belief, the blossoming of the Barbara branches brings good luck in the coming year.
