Wall Of Glass
After being stuck inside for most of yesterday, a bit of fresh air was definitely needed today. Though it felt damp outside, it wasn’t actually raining and it wasn’t too cold. So we went for a short (3 miles) walk into and around Kendal. There were only a few shops open, but McDonalds was doing a roaring trade when we popped in for a cup of tea halfway through our walk.
Crossing over Stramongate bridge the extent of the construction site involved in the flood defence works in that area was revealed. I’m sure their publicity claimed all the works would be completed by the end of the year. Though I don’t think they said which year…
It looks like we’re getting the “glass panel” type of wall on the stretch below the bridge, though I’m not entirely sure why. Previously, there was a solid wall, of the same height, and nobody seemed to have any issues with looking over - rather than through - it. Possibly the change is so that dogs on leads can join their owners as they gaze in awe and wonderment at the weir.
One day, I hope to be able to blip the completed flood defences. Always assuming that the Polar ice cap hasn’t melted by then and most of Kendal is underneath the Atlantic Ocean…
