It Was a Fine Day
A stunning sunrise to begin the festivities. My son, granddaughter, and her husband came over for our traditional holiday breakfast of puff pancakes and bacon, and we managed to have an awful lot of fun for such a small group. My curmudgeonly feelings about the season just up and vanished. In the afternoon Mr S and I walked by the ocean for a bit. The waves were big, but not gigantic—plenty of surfers in the water, and crowds of people and dogs on the path. The update on our wharf is that it is closed indefinitely out of caution; another storm is expected starting tomorrow. It’s a terrible blow to the businesses out there—restaurants, souvenir and gift shops, boat rentals. And no one has mentioned all the sea lions that used to hang out on the pilings under the pier. There are usually dozens and dozens of animals barking and cavorting; today it was strangely silent.
