The Lonely Sea and the Sky - Happy Christmas
We went for our traditional Christmas Eve walk, this year on the beach at Smitingen today. As we arrived someone walking a dog was leaving; otherwise we were alone.
This isn't unusual because there's a tradition here that the family gathers to watch Disney cartoons at 3 o'clock and then eat, open presents, etc. So if you are out walking at this time you are likely to be completely alone. Since Christmas Eve is the big celebration here it's perfect to wish everyone a Happy Christmas, as the beach message says.
That message on the beach, + foot and paw prints, proved that plenty of people and dogs had been out walking earlier in the day.
Since I'm posting this picture after midnight in the UK on the 25th I guess I can write the same message here...
Happy Christmas!
We finished the day with a trip to church, almost a midnight mass but it finished shortly before midnight. The priest was sick, so without a priest there was no communion, and without communion it all finished a little earlier than planned. The drive, and the walk into church was beautiful with its mix of dark night and the light from lamps and snow.
Advent and Christmas are so beautiful here, as long as the snow has arrived, which it nearly always has!
