Finding grandfather

Still testing positive so another dive into the archives for 2004.

Our trip to Sri Lanka 20 years ago was a journey of discovery to see where my father had lived whilst my grandfather was a road engineer for the Ceylon Road Development Authority.

We arrived in a place called Chilaw north of Colombo searching for records. The building which he lived in still looked the same. After much negotiation and discussion with the Road Development staff they went and found a rather beaten up roll call of Engineers and there was my grandfather’s name indicating he worked on the site from 1930 to 1933. 

Sadly this is where my grandmother contracted Dengue fever and eventually she had to return home to the Lake District where she died.
