Cheer on the shortest day
The weather today, on the shortest day of the year, has been particularly dismal with no chance of an outdoors blip.
However, I was very cheered this morning to receive a Christmas card and letter from one of my oldest friends ( from primary school) who was my bridesmaid. I hadn't heard from her for several years although I had sent Christmas cards, so in August just before her birthday, I wrote her a friendly letter hoping all was well. It seemed it was just the prompt she needed, and she is keen for us to meet up. She's in Hertfordshire so it's not impossible!
This evening we had local friends H and R and daughter A over for supper. This is the starter of smoked salmon parcels with a filling of avocado, which we served. It's been a very enjoyable evening. Our new year's resolution is to catch up with more of our longstanding friends. As I get older I realise how important it is to keep in touch with friends on a regular basis, while we still can.
