‘Christmas Theatre with the Grandchildren’

Following last weekend’s trip to Glasgow to see the film ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ with my son and his partner, today, the grandchildren came over from Glasgow to see a play based loosely on Treasure Island at Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre. Mixed views of the adaptation, my granddaughter and I discussed it, and our verdict was “adventurous, funny in parts, certainly different and memorable!”

There was no equivocation about a short animation film we saw on the BBC iPlayer this evening about Wojtek, a bear adopted by the Polish army during World War II. Wojtek is no Paddington, but the film is deep and very touching, with many Scottish connections. Wojtek (sadly) ended his days in Edinburgh Zoo, and there is now a statue of him in his heyday, standing with a Polish soldier, in Princes Street Gardens.
