Frew

Another puppy blip - since he seems to be the centre of our attention at the moment. Settling in well and great fun but we're working on the biting! Puppy teeth are like needles. His name is Frew (at last), called after a very old friend of ours, Willie Frew, publican and owner of the famed Frew's Bar on the Hawkhill, Dundee. Unlike the Tavern next door, which catered for the university students, Frew's was the haunt for many art college students, lorry drivers and the odd 'celeb' appearing at the nearby Whitehall Theatre - the Alexander Brothers in full make up and kilt outfit and Charles Haughtry of Carry On fame spring to mind. It was a heady mix and we were never short of a lift from the lorry drivers if hitch hiking anywhere in the country, as many people did then. Willie Frew is still to the fore and his pub, the original long since demolished, has moved to another part of the city and is run by his family.
