The Guv'nor
Rarely has turning the phone off and the out of office on felt so good.
I could have cried.
This was swiftly followed by the arrival of m’boy who was also on a half day (The Youngest was forced to pull a full-shift on her last day - she was livid), so we headed into town for a Bob n Bert’s lunch and a catch up. We also needed mulled wine for the latest episode of pizza Friday with the family.
There were big hugs all round on the arrival of The Youngest, after which time we donned our Christmas jumpers and headed up for a lovely evening with the family. With my sister’s side venturing South for the holiday it was going to be the last time we were all together, so we made the most of it with good food, fun and laughter - even the children played together nicely!
Underlying it all was concern for my father who had spent the day in hospital being prodded and poked and consulted on. Never really sure how to take it when one doctor says to another: “Here! Come and have a look at this!”
We all made a fuss of him though and he was pleased with the news of his replacement in the panto. A very fine young fellow called Ethan is stepping up to the challenge and will be brilliant.
The latest member of the family who seems destined for the stage is m’nephew. He’s another one who loves an audience and had us in stitches this evening with his echoing of my sister’s exclamation of “Blimey Guv’nor!”
Could we be more Southern…?
