Party ready
It was a cold bright sunny day and the sun streamed into the house as we were getting it ready. Trees stood in sharp relief against the skyline and I can see the beginnings of the bulbs peaking through. There is a patch of pre-Christmas snowdrops somewhere around that I must try and find.
I spent the day doing beautification and putting up lights and flowers and going into Petersfield on last minute errands.
We spent a lot of the day looking at last year’s pictures to decide where to put the drinks and how to manage the people flow but of course the minute the party started we didn’t get a chance to take any. Anyway, it all went well. 46 came, some on the way to the Isle of Wight some on the way from the Isle of Wight. Most of the neighbours. A couple of times I opened the door to a total stranger, someone Vik had decided to ask, the man who runs the best antique shop in Petworth for example.
Woody’s dog walker Milly and her brother worked the food and the bar and did incredibly well. We paid up and sent them home with a couple of boxes of party food as we’d obviously over ordered.
Note to the future. We made one round of punch which was enough but didn’t have enough sparkling wine so V had to crack open a rather good magnum of champagne to finish off.
Anyway, as of last year everyone went, we took some more pics, finished out drinks, ate a mince pie or two and went to bed.
