Carcassonne - the Cathedral of St Nazaire

Carcassonne, one of the most important Cathar Castles, is a very impressive looking old walled city and a UNESCO heritage site.

The turrets are not original, and inspired Walt Disney, when he stayed here, to create the setting for Sleeping Beauty. Some of the original walls, built in the 3rd Century by the Romans, can still be seen. The outer wall was built 1000 years later.
Still lived it the old city has some hotels, lots of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants as well as a theatre and a magnificent cathedral. These three windows are just some of those at the east end of the building. There are some beautiful rose windows and a chapel dedicated to Joan of Arc.
