Cor blimey!

I found this booklet tucked away in the bookcase. It was a gift to my eldest daughter from her friend when they were students together. 

It is quite illuminating. Did you know for instance that the word "scarper" actually comes from scapa flow = to go? 

Also, much rhyming slang is doubly poetic , sky rocket = pocket for instance leads the beguiling phrase "me skies are empty".  Hmmm
