Sock blank

Some undyed sock yarn which I am knitting into a 'sock blank'...... once I have knitted it all, the idea is to dye it then knit a pair of socks with it. My hubby reckons it's almost as daft as cutting up bits of fabric and then stitching them together again to make patchwork. Men....... they just don't get it, do they?
