The Granduncle
Well first of all, what can I say. I think Himself probably nailed it, when scrolling through all the lovely comments on my 5000th(!!!) blipday, he simply said: aren't people nice. You are, and it's a pleasure to be here and I have read each comment and am basking in a warm glow! Thank you so very much.
Right, before getting too gushy, I rifled through my, fairly modest, treasure box and came up with this tiny but precious little locket. Inside is a photo of my granduncle William Thomas Frederick Weale (1902-44), my granny's brother. It is the only known image of him and he looks young, mustachioed and handsome but remains an enigma. I suspect his is a sad story for when he was only 8 years old, his parents separated. This was a mega scandal and my granny only spoke about when she was in her 80s. There were four girls - the two eldest were sent off to finishing school in Switzerland, the two youngest went with their mother to Jersey and William Thomas Frederick remained with his father in Southampton. (writing this, I suspect I've told the tale before but hey ho you're allowed a bit of repetition for your 5001st blip!). He seems to have died during the war years but I can find nothing else about him and of course, never asked granny for details when I should have done. She always got a bit sad when mentioning him. Anyway the locket is tiny and a bit battered but here he is, resting on a piece of slightly outrageous and jazzy Indian fabric as requested by Carolinav who is hosting this week's TT challenge,
