Rain in Rio on La Maison Terrace

December is typically a rainy month and this year is no exception. However, it didn’t stop us from enjoying our Saturday feijoada. Today it was at La Maison, one of our favourite everyday restaurants down the bottom of Santa Clara and on the corner of Avenida Atlântica (which is the big avenue that runs right along the whole stretch of Copacabana). We were very disappointed to see it had ‘closed permanently’, when we recently googled it from Bcn. Then relieved and delighted to see when we arrived here that it had ‘only’ been closed for eight months for a complete renovation and was due to open ‘soon’. When we saw it, we thought it was optimistic of being open for its new year celebration. However, when we turned the corner today, we were surprised to see it open! Or at least the terrace, kitchen and bathrooms. The inside dining room will be in the new year. The staff are all mature waiters and have worked there for many years and all had to take on other work for the last eight months, like Uber deliveries. Nice to see them and get a warm welcome! We enjoyed our feijoada, but it’s not quite up to the meat quality of Bar 420 (which IS permanently closed) and so the search is still on. Watch this Saturday space! Extra is of the torrential rain from their terrace.
