One Hundred Years of Christmas...

Final day of term, and assemblies and Secret Santa, followed by a free buffet and fizz. Home early and my wife went off to Snettisham for a reunion with old friends and to stay at the Rose and Crown pub - one of the best in West Norfolk. For the first evening of the holiday I decided to dive in to the Netflix adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's 'One Hundred years of Solitude'. Marquez himself was opposed to this, but his sons are involved in the production, filmed in Colombia and featuring local languages.  Marquez insisted any film would need to be 100 hours (or even years) long to do justice to the book. The first 8 of 16 hours in total has been released ,and while there are inevitable gaps and differences in chronology, the first three hours are impressive and well produced. I first read the book 40 years ago. This is Melquiades, coming to cure the villagers of Macondo of the insomnia plague.
